Heather Clark Talks Fighting Felice Herrig A Second Time On TUF 20

Below are highlights of an interview with Ultimate Fighter cast member Heather Clark from The MMA Report: On fighting Herrig a second time:
"I knew it was going to happen, it was something I definitely looked forward to when I got the word I was going to be on the show. I knew for sure I was going to fight her, on my application the last question on the TUF application was to tell something interesting about yourself and I went on to talk about my hockey career, my theatre background, my stunts and then the last thing was “and I want a rematch with Felice Herrig, it would be the cherry on top”. It was something I wanted and I think the fans wanted."
On her first fight with Herrig in Bellator:
"My manager came to me and offered a fight against Felice for my first fight and for whatever reason it didn't go through and she pulled out and got another fight in Bellator and I knew she was going to take that and I would have done the same. Down the road we got offered another fight and she decided she didn't want to take that because she said I wouldn't make weight and that kind of pissed me off and I started poking at her a bit and pokes turned into stabs back and forth and whatnot. It was kind of something at that point where I was like "you offended me, I've apparently offended you, lets handle and settle this in the cage". In the first fight, I broke my radius in my right arm, completely in half and fought for eight minutes with a broken radius and now I have a plate and six screws in there so it was quite the fight."
On problems with Angela Magana:
"We did a stupid reality show that never got aired, thankfully. She is just really obnoxious, she’s a bully, she likes to feed off other people’s misery and she likes to put people down, she’s just a major insecure girl, a girl who grew up with unfortunately parents that didn't teach her about bullying."

Ronda Rousey On Men Fighting Women: “I Don’t Think It’s A Good Idea”

Although UFC President Dana White touts "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey as a lady who can kick most men's butts -- including Floyd Mayweather -- the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion doesn't think the world should ever witness a man versus a woman fighting on television. During a recent FOX Sports interview, the undefeated face of Women's MMA spoke about the subject of male vs. female fights. “I don’t think it’s realistically a good idea at all," said Rousey. "Because MMA is already fighting to be accepted, especially with all the Ray Rice and all these things going on." "Rowdy" Ronda continued, "It’s never going to be a good thing to have a man hitting a woman on television or ever in any circumstance unless it’s the gym where I’m about to go train right now after this.” Rousey concluded, “I don’t think it would be good to have that image on television. I don’t think it’s a good idea.” Rousey is scheduled to make the fifth defense of her UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship against the number one ranked contender in the division -- Cat Zingano -- in the co-main event of UFC 182, which takes place on January 3, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Joe Rogan Says He Has No Problem With Ronda Rousey Fighting Bryan Caraway

joe-rogan-podcast

During a recent appearance on the Fight Companion podcast, UFC commentator Joe Rogan explained why he would be okay with seeing a man fight a woman, particularly mentioning Bryan Caraway vs. Ronda Rousey. Caraway, who is the boyfriend of Rousey's biggest rival to date -- Miesha Tate -- infamously talked trash about Rousey, threatening to "knock her teeth down her throat" and "break her arm," right before Rousey first fought and defeated Tate to become the Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion. While Rousey herself recently claimed that men fighting women is not a good idea, she has been game for a fight with Caraway in the past. Rogan spoke about the subject during the aforementioned podcast appearance and gave his two cents on a Rousey-Caraway bout. "If you know that a chick used to be a dude, but is now a chick and you fight her, I'm on board," said Rogan. "I think it should be legal to ride bulls, I think it should be legal to jump BMX, you should be able to do whatever the f*ck you wanna do. I think a 135 pound chick should be able to fight a 135 pound dude." He continued, "I think if Ronda Rousey and Bryan Caraway talked enough sh*t and they decided to go at it, I don't have any problem with that if they both agree to it." Even UFC President Dana White feels Rousey could beat up most men. For now, however, we'll have to settle for Rousey fighting the undefeated number one contender in her own diviison, as she's scheduled to return to the Octagon on January 3rd for a fight at UFC 182 against Cat Zingano. FOX Sports recently announced that the entire cast of The Ultimate Fighter 20 -- minus one fighter -- will be returning for the live finale in December. UFC signed 16 of the top Women's Strawweight (115-pound) fighters in the world for the currently airing season of TUF, where the winner of this season's tournament will be crowned the first-ever UFC Women's Strawweight Champion. The rest of the ladies slugging it out on UFC's popular reality show will return for the finale, which airs on FOX Sports 1 on December 12, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, helping round out the fight card for that evening. Due to the fact that the season has already been taped and is in the can, matches for the finale won't be announced until the show is wrapped up in early December. The only member of the cast that won't be fighting on the finale is Justine Kish, as she will still be recovering from the ACL injury that resulted in her being booted off the show. It looks like Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano will not be taking place at UFC 182 in January as originally believed. The news was confirmed today that Rousey-Zingano is being moved from the 1/3 fight card in Las Vegas to the February 28th event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Rousey-Zingano joins the Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort UFC Middleweight Championship match on the UFC 184 pay-per-view fight card. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAIWK9IXpHg Ronda Rousey has been named as the new female face of the Buffalo Pro brand, marking the first fashion campaign for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion. "It’s such an amazing opportunity to be able to represent Buffalo Pro," Rousey said in a press release issued on Thursday. "Not only am I the first female they’ve ever had representing the campaign, but it’s the first time any MMA fighter has done any type of fashion thing at all. I feel really honored to be taking the first steps into this industry. I never had the confidence when I was younger to dress well, and avoided any type of fashion and femininity, and I’m enjoying the chance to embrace it at this point in my life." "Rowdy" Ronda continued, "Whenever I get a fight, I obsess over it because I feel like everything I've worked for my entire life really weighs on it. I wouldn't be representing Buffalo Pro if I didn't win these fights. I feel like every single time that I get out there all of those things that I've earned along the way are on the line, and so I'm not just fighting to protect my title or a belt -- that's just a piece of metal -- I'm fighting to really legitimize every single bit of work that I've done all the way up to this point, and any loss along that way it will all be wasted in my eyes." Holly Holm Sees Holes In Ronda Rousey’s Game, Talks Turning Down Huge Payday

holly-holm-inside-mma

The newest addition to the UFC Women's Bantamweight division, former professional boxing champion and undefeated pro MMA prospect Holly Holm recently spoke about her decision to transition from boxing to MMA, among other topics. "Over time it became clear to me, and maybe because it is new and there is so much to learn, but I just became so much more passionate about MMA," said Holm to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports Holm continued, "I was around boxing a long time and not just around boxing, but at a high level. I have a lot of experience in boxing against a lot of really high quality opposition. But in transitioning to MMA, there is so much to learn and I'm still on that learning curve. It feels good to go to the gym and be challenged and feel like I'm learning new things every day, but I have a lot of work to do." As she is often forced to do, Holm spoke about Ronda Rousey, and analyzed her style, explaining some openings she has noticed when studying her fights. "Ronda has been incredible and she's run through everyone without it being too much of a competition," Holm said. "In trying to close the gap on her, a lot of girls don't want to get too close because then she can clinch and toss you to the ground and then arm bar you in two seconds. But if you don't get close enough, you can't hit her. You have to be able to put together a game plan to get past that." Holm continued, "If you're going to be in range, you have to be ready to deal with the clinch game. If you're going to be out, you better be working on some angles to try to strike from distance and use footwork and the cage to your advantage. I'm not saying girls haven't tried, but she's obviously just flat shut down their plans." Holm insists that no human being is invincible, explaining why she feels there is no fighter on the planet that can't be beat. "Nobody is impossible to beat, and I don't care who you are," she said. "I'm not just talking about Ronda Rousey. I'm talking about anybody. There are huge upsets in sports across the board and have been from the beginning of time. There are always huge upsets, and let's be honest: That's why people watch sports. It's why sports are interesting. If you always know what's going to happen, you wouldn't watch. But that's why we watch sports, because we never really know the end result." The undefeated UFC Women's Bantamweight prospect also explains why confidence plays an important factor in her success. "It's possible for athletes to psyche themselves out and so they don't perform as well as they're capable. For myself, I focus on believing in myself and believing I've done everything I can do to be ready and that I haven't cut corners. My mindset is to do what I have to do and that when I get in there, I know I've put in all the work and I believe I can win." So just how passionate about the sport is Holm, the woman who hung up the boxing gloves and guaranteed success in sports to take on a new challenge with MMA? The female boxer who holds a victory over Christy Martin -- arguably the biggest name in women's boxing on the planet -- reveals that she turned down one of the biggest paydays in the history of her career by making the choice to switch to MMA. "I just am so passionate for MMA, and I believe in focusing on what I'm passionate about," she said. "I turned down one of my biggest paydays in boxing after I'd turned over to MMA full-time. When they offered me this huge amount of money, I didn't want to be bought out. I didn't want to take the fight just for the money, because I said I'd never do that. I really want to do what my heart is set on, and I've fallen in love with MMA. I am loving this life and I'm loving this challenge of being a better fighter every day. It's that challenge that motivates me and keeps me going." Known as "The Preacher's Daughter," Holm makes her UFC debut against Raquel Pennington at UFC 181 on December 6, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. H/T: Yahoo! UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey recently spoke with the folks at Women's Wear Daily to promote her new sponsorship deal with Buffalo Pro, where Rousey is in some very revealing shots.
RELATED: Check out video and photos of Ronda Rousey's "Buffalo Pro" shoot here
Below are some highlights of the interview, which you can check out in full at WWD.com.
WWD: You are closing in on a major activewear and sneaker endorsement deal. In the meantime, how did the Buffalo David Bitton deal come together? Ronda Rousey: I purposefully have been holding out a long time on the apparel side of sponsorship. It was worth giving up lots of money that had been offered to me in order to pick exactly the right sponsor at the right time. Buffalo Pro was the perfect thing because they never had a woman, and there had never been any MMA athlete who had a sponsored fashion deal at all. So, I was excited to jump all over it. I got so many cool clothes. I was looking around and said to my roommate the other day, “Jesus Christ, why haven’t I gotten a fashion sponsorship sooner?” WWD: How long do you usually work out? R.R.: If I am training only once a day, I will train for three hours straight. It has a lot to do with my coach because he knows I will keep training until I drop. It’s until I get cut off — I would keep going forever if they let me. Overtraining is my biggest problem. I always have to have someone watching me so that I make sure I stop. WWD: How did you first get into martial arts? R.R.: My mother was the first American to win the world championships in judo, back in 1984. She did that working as an engineer, a single mother and getting her Ph.D. She’s the most amazing person I have ever met. When we moved back to California, she visited teammates who had opened clubs of their own. I tagged along and tried out. From the first day I tried it, I loved it, and six years later, I was on my first Olympic team. WWD: What do most people misunderstand about what you do? R.R.: People have a very hard time seeing the art of it. It’s called “martial arts” because that really is what it is. It’s not just brawling and throwing your hands. There’s a sweet science and a beauty to it that you really have to be close to and immersed in to see. On the outside, it just looks like violence and gore, but, on the inside, you see two people competing against each other in the most honest of settings. When every single layer is pulled back in a fight, that is the time when you are your truest self and you really learn the most about yourself, mentally and physically. It’s all about trying to outsmart the other person. It’s not really about being stronger or faster. WWD: What’s the end game? R.R.: When I fight, I think, “How can I funnel this person into doing what I want them to do?” I have to convince them to do something, but I have to make them think it’s a good idea. You have to get inside that person’s head and be like, “OK, I want this person to step to the left. So, what can I do to convince this person the best thing they can do is to step to the left for me?” It’s more of a mental chess game than it is about a physical fight. WWD: Is that outlook helpful in life and business? R.R.: Definitely. All sports are a metaphor for life, especially MMA more than anything else. It’s not like baseball, football or soccer, where the objective is to make so many points. In martial arts, the objective is always the philosophy and the discipline. Where I come from is judo, where the principals are maximum efficiency, minimum effort and mutual welfare and benefit. In judo, you’re supposed to try every single movement where it’s the most efficient. If you do a throw perfectly, it should take no effort from you. That’s what I’ve really learned in my life — being efficient in everything I do. And you always need that other person, and you’re only as good as the person you train with. So, every single time you throw someone eight times, you need to take eight falls yourself for the other person. That’s another principal that I have always applied to my life. I can’t expect things to be all about me all the time. I give as much as I expect to get. WWD: Any weight-control advice for models? R.R.: Every single time I do a shoot, I try to do it at a weight I can maintain. With the ESPN Body issue, I got a little bit lighter because ESPN tries to capture the human body at its highest potential. With anything else — like Maxim or the car magazine shoot I did in Brazil that is about femininity and not athleticism‚ I purposefully try to go in a little bit heavier, at a weight I can chill at and not have to cut down to. I want to be looking how I would on any given Wednesday. It’s important to have proper role models and to have proper sexual role models. Growing up, I would see all these chicks in magazines who looked nothing like me at all, and I thought there was something wrong with me. In middle school and high school, the boys I had crushes on were pawing at girls in magazines or just talking about girls who looked nothing like me. I love all the Dove commercials that are about the empowerment of women.

Ronda Rousey is always staying busy. Whether it's fighting in a cage, acting on the big screen, or becoming the face of a fashion campaign, the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion always has something going on. One of her new projects could be in conjunction with her "Furious 7" co-star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In a lengthy Fortune story on the former WWE Superstar, it was revealed that Rousey will be working with The Rock's production company on an anti-bullying show, tentatively named, "Comeback Kids." There isn't much known about the project at this point, other than it's in its' early stages. Below is an excerpt from the Fortune piece:
"The big business moving forward is in producing television. [Dwayne] Johnson and [Dany] Garcia, through 7 Bucks Productions, have eight projects in the works, many of which won’t star Johnson. One is an anti-bullying show with mixed-martial-arts champion Ronda Rousey (the working title is Comeback Kids). Another is a comedic show with a host (not Johnson) who discusses how to survive social events like a bachelor party. Yet another show, a partnership with 44 Blue, which produces the MSNBC program Lockup, will send Johnson to a Miami detention center to mentor at-risk youths."
