Cyborg’s Bantamweight Debut Set For 12/5 Invicta FC Event On UFC Fight Pass

cris-cyborg-justino-2

UFC announced via the latest edition of their "UFC Minute" what they billed as "breaking news." Former Strikeforce and Invicta FC Women's Champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino will officially drop down to 135 pounds to make her Bantamweight debut at the Invicta FC event airing on UFC Fight Pass on December 5th. You can watch the announcement being made via the "UFC Minute" breaking news video above. Obviously the reason this is considered "breaking news" is due to the fact that Cyborg will be making her debut in the same weight class as UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey. UFC President Dana White has noted many times in the past that if Cyborg wants to challenge Rousey for the title, she would have to prove she can make weight and win a fight or two in the Bantamweight division. No opponent was announced for Cyborg as of right now. If and when we find out who her opponent will be, we will be sure to update you here at MMANews.com. Cyborg Talks About Fighting Ronda Rousey, Promises To Knock Her Out

The following are highlights of a recent Submission Radio interview with Cris "Cyborg" Justino: On making 135 pounds
“I try my best for all my fans. I wanna make 135 to maybe make the fight with Ronda Rousey”
On if she will stay at Bantamweight for a while or just for her fight with Ronda Rousey
“You know for me when I make 145 it’s very hard, but I put my head in the hands of the professional on my side and he told me I came make it if I try and I try my best. I want to be healthy to make 135 and I don’t know how many times I can make 135, but I can say I tried my best to make 135 and be strong.”
On who her opponent is going to be at Invicta 10
“I don’t know yet I think I will know soon but I don’t know yet my next opponent."
On if it’s difficult to make her Bantamweight debut and not know who her opponent is
“No I train every day. I don’t train only when I have fights, you know. I think if you train every day and learn something, because every day you have to learn and have new things every single day. So I think if you train every day and you get close to your fight, you make a camp for your next opponent, you study her, and I’m training. I train every day, but as soon as I know who I’m fighting I'll study with my team and make a plan for next fight.”
On if she has started cutting weight already
“You know I’m cutting weight very well and now I almost changed my diet again and it's going good. It's successful now and I think I’ll be ok in December at 135.”
If she’s cutting down to 135 to fight Ronda Rousey
“Not 100 percent. I think because of having more girls in 135 than 145. If it’s possible that I make 135 and I'm still good and still healthy, I think I can keep (staying at) 135. I’ll be happy because I can fight more times per year. 145 has girls but does not have girls like in 135 and I think it has more opportunity for me, and for sure if I make 135 I want to fight Ronda Rousey for sure.”
Thoughts on Ronda Rousey as a fighter
“You know I think she’s a good athlete and becoming better and she’s improved now in her boxing and Muay Thai she’s becoming better, but I really think she’s run from me. When I was Strikeforce champ she was in my weight class 145 and she ran to 135 so she cannot fight me, and she's trying to use my mistake saying 'ah she don’t want to be in the UFC because of heavy doping tests', but she’s lying because I don’t go to the UFC because I have to cut for 135 and at the time when I talked to the UFC I wasn't not ready for this.” “I think she keeps talking and keeps running, you know and I think if I make 135 she cannot run anymore, because everybody, all the fans want to watch the fight and I think the only way for this fight to happen and to make her shut up is to make 135.”
What advantages she sees herself having over Rousey
“I like the stand up, you know. I cannot say "oh I'll take her down', no. I like the stand up and I think it's more exciting. I like to knock people out, I like punch people, I like to be standing." "People think 'ah she doesn’t have Jiu Jitsu'. Man I compete Jiu Jitsu and I’m twice champion of the world and a purple belt. I got my brown belt in one year and I like to compete in wrestling. I like to compete fighting in Muay Thai. I think when you compete, you learn every day something. But always when I fight I like the stand up, but not because I don’t have ground, because I think it's more exciting. I like to change punches, I like to be boxing and I like this. And for Ronda Rousey, man I will knock out her for sure and I'll try, but you know you have to be ready for everything inside the octagon.” “To have the opportunity to submit her, I will. To have the opportunity to knock her out, I will. You know it’s a game. You have to be ready for everything and I’ll be ready for everything when I fight her for sure.”
On Rousey's comments about her and thoughts about her as a person
“You know I hear about it and I think it's sad. You know she’s going to my country and why she’s not enjoying my country and to see my people and she’s try to speak bad things about me in my country. You know she's not a smart girl because everybody there want to watch me and her and I don’t think it’s nice. I live in the United States and never speak bad about her and I want to fight her, but I don’t need to speak bad things about her." "I think it’s not cool, but no problem. I think it’s a game. You know I think she’s trying to make it nice to Brazilian fans with her or make the fight. I don’t know what she wants to do, but I think the UFC tries make more fans in brazil and she tries to speak bad about me to make more Brazilian fans” "But for me it doesn’t matter. For me it doesn’t change. She can keep talking. So when she keeps talking I keep training, and this is my style. I don’t like to speak too much. I like only training and inside the Octagon we can do differently. I cannot talk and we can fight. We can have a fight inside the octagon not outside and in interviews. It's my style. I respect her, but inside the octagon it's different.”

Ronda Rousey Says Cyborg Embarrassed Not Only The Sport, But Her Country

During a recent interview with Combate, UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey had some harsh words for Cris "Cyborg" Justino:
“I’m the champion. I fight whoever comes up. She’s the one who has options, not me. I’m exactly where I was when she left and she can come back and give it a try anytime. She’ll get what she deserves. She really embarrassed not just women’s MMA and the sport, she embarrassed her country, as well. I’m happy to set it straight. She says she so ‘desperately’ wants [the fight].
Then how come the day after they announced out-of-competition drug testing in the UFC she asked to be released? If you so desperately wanted a fight you would come fight me, not run away. I think she’s saying one thing and doing another. I’ve always been [in the UFC]. I’m not going anywhere.”
Her comments come just days after Cyborg promised that she could knock out Ronda Rousey, should the two women ever step into the Octagon together. Talk about this on our official FACEBOOK page, or on our official TWITTER page. You can also talk about it in our popular FORUMS.

During a recent appearance on Bruce Buffer's "It's Time" podcast, UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey spoke about the issue of fighter pay in MMA. Rousey insists that she's very well taken care of, however she doesn't want people knowing her "private" salary. "The money that I make, I'm very, very happy, and I'm very, very satisfied," Rousey told the UFC ring announcer. "It's also very, very private. I don't want people to know how much money I'm making." Rousey continued, "I can just say I'm very comfortable and very well taken care of. So are all these other women, from what I know they're extremely well taken care of. The UFC is special in that they're willing to make themselves look bad so the fighters have to deal with less." You can check out Rousey's full appearance on the show at PodcastOne.com. During her appearance on MMA Fighting's "The MMA Hour" with Ariel Helwani, UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Holly Holm stated that she wouldn't turn down a fight with Ronda Rousey if she were offered it. "If they throw me in with Ronda, awesome," said Holm. "I'm never the one who makes the call. I always want more time, because I'm never going to be perfect. There's always time." Holm continued, "I have been boxing forever, and my jab needs so much work. I'm constantly learning, I never feel like yes I'm ready. However, if you give me a fight, I'm going to believe in myself." As a former boxing champion, Holm admits that Rousey's striking skills have improved in her last few Octagon appearances. "With Alexis Davis, she hit her clean with that overhand and that's what knocked her out," Holm said. "She was supposed to bring her down and finish her, so I was very impressed with it. She landed a very clean shot, it wasn't lucky, I thought it was a good, clean shot she hit her with, right on the jaw. Then she also had the knee to the ribs of [Sara] McMann, so obviously, she is getting a very well-rounded game, and she has cleaned house. She has cleaned house. Anyone who gets in there with her doesn't give her a hard time. She's definitely great and I think she's very good and I admire her for what she's been able to accomplish. Hopefully I'll be able to step in the cage with her eventually, and have that honor of fighting with her." Holm concluded, "I just want one fight at a time for right now," Holm said. "I don't want to look too far ahead, I have Raquel Pennington in front of me, but always make sure I watch Ronda's fights though, don't get me wrong." During an appearance on "Jim Rome On Showtime," UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey spoke about her inability to accept defeat, recalling losses she has dealt with prior to her career in mixed-martial-arts. In a press release issued by Showtime to promote the show, which aired on Tuesday night, Rousey recalled times during fights where she thought she was going to die. "There have been times during a fight when I thought I was going to die," Rousey said. "I thought to myself, 'I would rather break my neck than lose this fight.'" Rousey appeared on the show, which also featured NFL greats Eddie George and Michael Irvin, as well as NBA veteran Brian Scalabrine. The UFC Women's Bantamweight champ continued, explaining that while she's undefeated in her professional MMA career, she has experienced defeat in the past. "It’s not that I’ve never lost; it’s that I’ve lost at the worst times, so I know what a loss is," Rousey said. "That’s why I want to win so much more than these other girls." "Rowdy" Ronda continued, "I know that I would rather physically die than die inside from losing a fight. I remember every single loss of my career, but have forgotten so many of my victories." Ronda Rousey is rumored to defend her UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship against top-ranked contender Cat Zingano in early 2015. Miesha Tate Calls Out Bethe Corriea, Says She’s Tired Of Boring Fights

During a recent interview with Ask Men, UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Miesha Tate called out the number eight-ranked contender in the division, Bethe Correia. "Cupcake" explained why Correia is someone she'd like to see across the Octagon, noting that she'd be willing to stand and bang with her until "someone goes down." Below is an excerpt from the interview.
"I really want to fight Bethe Correia. She's doing really well and she's not afraid to engage in a fight. She's undefeated and she has an exciting style of fighting. My last two opponents that I beat just wanted to grab a hold of me and take me to the ground. They did not want to throw punches with me at all. It's not as fun for me. I like people that want to stand up and fight. I feel like Correia is well rounded and we could win fight of the night. It's hard to win fight of the night when one of the two people in the ring just want to hold on to you or lay on you. I want to fight someone that isn't afraid to stand up with me. Let's give the fans what they want to see and throw punches until someone goes down."

During an appearance on "Jim Rome on Showtime," UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey gave her take on why she feels pretty girls are better at combat sports. "They're the ones that don't get hit," said Rousey. "If you think about it, if someone's all gnarled-up, and you're like 'Oh man, they've been through some battles', it's like yeah, they suck! They've just been hit a bunch of times. If I'm coming out looking fine, then I'm probably the better fighter." Elaborating on a comment she made recently about her feeling that she was close to death in past fights, Rousey said: "With Liz Carmouche, I thought I could die for sure. I blocked a choke so she turned it into a neck crank. I felt my jaw dislocate and I was thinking I would rather break my neck than lose this fight." The undefeated UFC champ continued, "I would rather die than lose. I know that feeling so well. It's not that I've never lost. I've lost at the worst time so I know what a loss is. UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Miesha Tate has been selected to drop the green flag at Martinsville Speedway for the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 on Sunday, October 26th. "I have had the opportunity to do a lot of cool things in my life, but attending my first race and dropping the green flag might be one of the coolest things I have ever done," said the former UFC Women's Bantamweight title contender. "I think we're both top-tier athletes, both UFC fighters and NASCAR drivers," Tate said. "We all work really hard to be where we're at. The fans are similar in that they enjoy the excitement each sport offers and that's why they watch and partake in them. I think that fans of NASCAR would naturally gravitate to the UFC, and vice versa, if we could just bridge that gap a bit better between both worlds." For more on this story, visit NASCAR.com. After being challenged by Miesha Tate in a recent interview, UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Bethe Correia wasted no time accepting the challenge. Through a translator, Correia told Tate to be careful who she challenges and to wear a good mouthpiece, because she'll answer the challenge with "punches to the mouth." "Everyone knows I want to be the champion," Correia said to FOX Sports through a translator. "And fight the champion is something I've looked for, something I worked to get. I have no idea why Tate decided to appear in this history. But everyone knows me and knows how I am, I never back away from a fight, I am Bethe Correia. I never run from a challenge." Correia continued, "Whoever challenges me make sure to use a good mouthpiece because I'll answer to it in the Octagon with punches to the mouth." Although she's willing to accept Tate's challenge, Correia continues to make it clear that it's Ronda Rousey and the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship that she has her sights set on. "I'll be the next UFC champion," Correia said. "I'll fight anyone they want me to and I'll beat all of them. Lorenzo Fertitta Says Rousey-Zingano Likely For UFC 182, Holly Holm To Challenge Winner?

rousey-espy

UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta explained during a recent media interview that the proposed title fight between undefeated UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronday Rousey and number-one ranked, undefeated UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Cat Zingano is nearly finalized for the upcoming January 3rd fight card in Las Vegas, Nevada. "'Cat is certainly the number one contender, and I’m thinking that more than likely will happen," said Fertitta. As far as what could be next for whomever comes out on top as the reigning champion after the likely 1/3 title match between Rousey and Zingano, Fertitta has an idea regarding who just might be the perfect fit. Fellow undefeated prospect and the latest addition to the UFC Women's Bantamweight division -- Holly Holm -- just might fit the bill. “She has to work her way through the system," said Fertitta of former boxing champion Holly Holm. "We've got her in a tough fight,” Fertitta said of Holm's UFC debut opponent -- Ultimate Fighter veteran Raquel Pennington. “She’s obviously extremely talented in the stand-up game," said Fertitta of Holm. "But is she well rounded enough to get into a position to challenge for a title?" When breaking down the Holm-Pennington fight, which was announced for UFC 181 in December, Fertitta questioned whether or not the stand-up fighter Holm has what it takes to implement her style of fight to get past the former TUF cast member. “[Pennington] has good stand-up and an underrated ground game," Fertitta said of Holm's UFC debut opponent. "It’s going to be interesting to see if this fight remains standing.” And even though Holm herself admitted that while she may not have earned a shot at Rousey and the UFC title just yet, she wouldn't turn such a bout down either, regardless of her lack of experience on the big stage. Fertitta couldn't agree more. “My gut tells me we’ll want her to have a couple, three fights to have her work her way through the division,” said the UFC co-owner. “If she’s successful, depending on how she looks in those fights, we’ll make the best fight that makes the most sense at the time. She has to get at least a couple wins.” As far as Rousey vs. Zingano is concerned, however, as noted above, Fertitta seems to think the UFC 182 lineup would be the perfect fit. After a number of injuries shuffled up a bunch of planned fight cards, UFC 182 on January 3rd will be headlined by arguably the biggest grudge match on the horizon, as it now serves as the home for the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier fight for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
