Ronda Rousey Talks Gina Carano Fight, Mayweather Insulting Her & More

UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is interviewed in the August 18th edition of ESPN The Magazine and spoke at length about her budding Hollywood career and a potential fight with Gina Carano. While she never grew up with aspirations of becoming a Hollywood action star, Rousey says she hopes to become the next "Rock" and become the highest grossing actor in the world.
"I didn't grow up wanting to be an action star. I just didn't think it was in the cards. Now that it's a possibility, I'm like, "Screw it, I don't give a s---, if The Rock can become the world's highest-grossing actor, I can have that same goal." I want to be the highest-grossing actor in the world someday." "I never aspired to be second. I was taught as a kid that you can do whatever you want in this world, so why not be the best in the world at it? Even when I was bartending, I wanted to be the world's best, most efficient and charming bartender. That's how I do things."
Rousey explained that she does almost all of her own stunts (taking precautions when she's training for a fight):
"I did all of my own stunts, except for a couple of falls. I had a fight that December, so Dana White wouldn't let me do anything too dangerous, but nobody else could do a lot of those fight scenes, so it fell to me. I'm an adrenaline junkie, and I love jumping off of stuff, so they promised to let me do my own falls if I don't have a fight next time."
When asked about Floyd Mayweather apparently not knowing who she was and referring to her as a "him," Rousey is taking his word that it was simply an honest mistake.
"I'm not going to make any assumptions. He said he really didn't know, and he apologized if I was offended. I thought that was sweet of him."
As for a potential fight against Gina Carano, she's confident in her chances, as long as she avoids a one-punch knockout:
"Well, I want to win, of course. That's how every fight goes down. But my coach said from the start that Gina is the worst style matchup for me. I'm not just saying that. I don't have to worry about fighters outmuscling or overwhelming me or catching me on the mat. The only thing I have to worry about is the one-punch knockout. And out of all of the women in MMA, Gina has the best feel for distance and timing. That's not something you lose because you made a couple of movies. You'll always have that. And she was the first girl I ever saw that had a one-punch standing knockout. The other chicks who are known for knocking people out, those are really TKOs: They got overwhelmed on the ground, and then the ref stopped them. She's the one who can knock you out while standing on her feet with one punch. That's what makes her the most dangerous." "I really do believe that she's the hardest competitor I could ever find to fight. Even if you don't believe that, even if you think she took too much time off and it'd be a quick fight, to be honest, that fight would be too hot not to watch. It doesn't really matter if it'll be competitive or not. And if you do watch it, you're going to be surprised: It'll be one of greatest fights to ever happen in the history of women's MMA."

There are multiple reports circulating in the MMA world that claims Bellator has signed Marloes Coenen away from Invicta FC, as well as rumors that Bellator has possibly signed Gina Carano. As far as the Coenen story is concerned, she has been removed from the Invicta website. The Gina Carano rumors on the other hand are just that -- rumors -- until further notice. It is interesting to note that Dave Meltzer mentioned during his latest "Wrestling Observer Radio" broadcast that there is a potential mega-announcement possibly coming from Bellator on Tuesday. Whether or not the announcement is related to the Carano rumors remains to be seen. MMANews.com hopes to have an update on this situation later today as more information surfaces. Ronda Rousey Demands To Fight Bethe Correia In Next UFC Title Defense

According to UFC President Dana White, after defeating two of the Four Horsewomen members, Bethe Correia has caught the attention of the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion in a big way. White noted during his post-UFC 177 media scrum in Sacramento on Saturday that Ronda Rousey immediately started texting him after Correia defeated Shayna Baszler, demanding that she fight Correia in her next title defense. "As soon as [Correia] started talking, she texted me and said, ‘I want that fight. I want it now. I want it before someone else beats her'," said White. While on the surface it would seem to be an obvious match to make, with the rumors of Gina Carano possibly signing with the UFC in the near future, as well as the upcoming contender match between Cat Zingano and Amanda Nunes at UFC 178, White feels that Rousey has other business to take care of before they give her the Correia fight that she desires. "I said, ‘Calm down, lady. You’ve got other people to fight. We’ll figure it out.’ There’s a long list for Rousey waiting right now, so we’ll see what happens," said the UFC President. “The Karate Hottie” Says Invicta’s Deal With UFC Kept Her In The Sport

Invicta FC's 105-pound champion, Michelle Waterson, known to MMA fans as "The Karate Hottie," noted during a recent interview that Invicta's deal with UFC to air on their "Fight Pass" digital service was the deciding factor in her decision to put off having another baby in favor of returning to the cage. Waterson told USA Today Sports that the longer she waited around for fights, the more she contemplated giving up fighting for a while to try and get pregnant again. "The Karate Hottie" spoke about how she didn't want her three-year-old daughter to be an only child and that the longer she waited around for an opponent to challenge for her Invicta FC Atomweight title, the more she began to lose hope. “All those things go through your mind,” said Waterson (11-3), who defends her title against Yasuko Tamada (15-8-3) at Invicta FC 8 in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday night's UFC Fight Pass debut show. “I feel like fighting is such a sacrifice on your body and on your family. If you’re just training with nothing in front of you, sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated. I started thinking, man, if I’d known I was going to be out this long, I could have had another baby already.” Waterson said two things kept her from giving up her dreams, the first of which was her husband, Joshua Gomez, a boxer who hung his gloves up to take a job as a financial advisor in order to support the family while she continued her fighting career. Gomez said "it just made sense because Michelle is a hundred times better fighter than I ever was." The other reason she decided to hang in there was Invicta inking a deal to air their events live on UFC Fight Pass. “That was great to hear, because I feel like the relationship between Invicta and UFC Fight Pass is going to allow Invicta to have more cards, more opportunities,” Waterson says. If the deal does allow Invicta to put on more fight cards, Waterson says the deal could result in her ability to turn her MMA aspirations into a full-time career. “I think a lot really depends on how this event goes,” said Waterson. “Hopefully this will allow Invicta to have more cards so I can fight more regularly. Then this can actually be a career for me.” As far as Waterson and Gomez having another baby so that their daughter isn't an only child, Gomez says there is plenty of time in the future for that. “Her job right now iis to be the champ," said Gomez. "The Karate Hottie" defends her 105-pound title against Yasuko Tamada this Saturday night at Invicta FC 8 live on UFC Fight Pass. For a preview of the show, watch the video at the top of this page. During the third round of the Invicta FC 8 main event between Michelle Waterson vs. Yasuko Tamada on Saturday night, the first non-UFC event to air live on UFC Fight Pass, the digital service crashed. As a result, viewers missed the conclusion of the Waterson-Tamada championship bout. At the Invicta FC 8 post-fight press conference, Ant Evans, the UFC executive leading the UFC Fight Pass service, spoke to members of the MMA media about the incident, acknowledging what happened and promising to make it right with consumers. "Fight Pass did experience a slight drop in the stream during the course of Michelle's main event for several minutes. I'd like to be very clear this is a Fight Pass issue and we have never experienced it before," said Evans. "It was definitely not an Invicta issue. We'd like to apologize to Shannon [Knapp] for that." Evans concluded, "We're going to do a make up for this for all of our great subscribers." Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp also spoke to the media, focusing on the positives of her promotion finally airing on the UFC Fight Pass service. "I think they're very happy with us just like we are very happy with them," said Knapp. "I think the support they give us definitely shows you how happy they are with us. It was a great event. It's very positive feedback and as Marshall [Zelaznik] said, there's big things happening and more to come." The following are highlights of a new Extra TV interview with UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey: On her thoughts on the Ray Rice video:
"I was watching it and I was like, 'What the hell am I... Is this Sports Center?' Like, I couldn't even believe my eyes."
On her thoughts on the fact that Janay Palmer married Ray Rice:
"I'm just going to go and say, that was probably not a wise decision. For women, I think, you just need to respect yourself and see what your worth, and really know what you're worth. And, unfortunately, I think a lot of women undersell themselves and they don't know how much they really deserve. And I know for a fact that that woman deserves more than what she believes."

The following are highlights of a new MMAJunkie Radio interview with top UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Miesha Tate: On her upcoming fight with Rin Nakai: "Although Rin is relatively unknown to the general public, she's (15-0-1), and (UFC President) Dana (White) knows that, (UFC co-owner) Lorenzo (Fertitta) knows that, and UFC matchmakers know that. They know that this girl's legit and she's tough. Sixteen wins with no losses is difficult for anybody fighting professionally; it's quite an accomplishment." On her goals in UFC: "Beating [Nakai] is definitely a step in the right direction for me. But I don't know exactly where that puts me. I hope it means I'm getting closer to a title shot [against Ronda Rousey] one more time, and if that's good enough, I'll take the title shot. If not, I'd like to face Cat Zingano again." Ronda Rousey On Why UFC Hasn’t Signed Gina Carano Yet, Wanting To Fight Bethe Correia

ronda-rousey-brazil-scrum

While in Brazil for the UFC Fight Night Brasilia event this past Saturday, UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey spoke with members of the MMA and sports media about a number of topics. Below are highlights from the media scrum. On her thoughts on Cyborg Justino and Cyborg's past issues with weight:
"I always know that she's been able to make the weight. She's the one that went and told everybody that she was going to die and then ran off and is going to go make it anyway. Yeah, I think she's going to make the weight, and I think she's going to perform extremely well. The thing is, I've never gone anywhere. I've been waiting to fight her. She's the one that 24 hours after they announced out-of-competition testing for the UFC, she asked to be released. I didn't go anywhere. She's the one that ran off. So yeah, go ahead. Go down to 135. Work you way over to me. You'll get the beating that you've been deserving all these years. I'm jut getting better and better every day, and I think that she's done so much against the sport when I've done so much to try and build it. She's not only embarrassed herself, but she's embarrassed her country. She's been a terrible representative, and I can't wait to really give her what's been coming to her."
On why she wants to fight Bethe Correia and why people say she doesn't deserve a title shot yet:
"I don't know why you would say (Correia) hasn't earned it. That's the exact thing people said about me. I wasn't ranked at 135 when I won the world title. People said that I didn't deserve it. I see a girl that's undefeated, and I see one of the best athletes in the world, and I see somebody that has not only fought and beat my friends, but she was a little bit disrespectful about it. And while I felt that was extremely intelligent of her, that doesn't mean I'm going to let her get away with it. So I'm like, ‘Yes, you got my attention. I do want to fight you, but that's not going to work out very well for you.' I would love to defend my belt (in Brazil). I think it would be the perfect place to fight Bethe, actually. Sometime in the middle of the year or next year or something like that. I try not to look too far ahead. I'm going to beat whoever is in front of me, hopefully January 3rd. That's what I'm hoping for. Then after that, I would be honored to come back to Brazil and win here again."
On why UFC hasn't signed Gina Carano yet and other opponents she has her eyes on:
"There's plenty of other girls that are some of the best athletes in the world and are ready and willing to take it up. I promised Cat Zingano. I promised her, ‘One day we are going to have the title fight you deserve. I'm going to beat you, but we're going to have it.' So I'm still waiting for her, and I would still love to fight Bethe (Correia). I would love to fight Holly Holm that just got signed. There are so many women in the UFC right now. Jessica (Andrade's) performance right now was very impressive, and so yeah, there are girls out there. I would love Gina to be one of them, but if not, good luck on her journey." "It's frustrating, but it's the way that it is. This business isn't perfect. And for Gina, no one can want to fight for you. I would never be mad at her for anything. She's pretty flawless in my eyes. She changed my entire life. She inspired me to do what I'm doing now. So if she wanted to never fight again for the rest of her life, I would respect her decision for that because I know what it's like to lose your passion for something, and no one can force you to have that. I hope that she does find that passion again and does want to fight again, and if so, I will be there for her."

Video: Ronda Rousey Weighs In On Fighting Transgender Figher Fallon Fox

The issue of transgender MMA fighters is back in the news, with UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey stating her beliefs about whether she would be open to fighting a woman that was once a man. TMZ cameras caught up with Rousey on Friday and asked her if she'd be willing to fight Fallon Fox (5-1), who recently stopped Tamikka Brents and broke her orbital bone in a fight that lasted all of two minutes. Rousey, who says she can knock out anybody, explains why she doesn't think a fight against Fox would be fair.
"I think it's one of those scenarios when it's a case by case thing. I actually tried to research a lot and I feel that if you already go through puberty as a man, it's something you can't really reverse. But there are people that are earlier on put on hormone replacement therapy until they're of legal age, and they can make a decision to get the sex change later. That would be acceptable, that would be fine because they won't already have developed the bone structure of a man. You can't just reverse that. There's no 'undo' button on that. On a case by case basis, you really have to look at that, but on Fallon Fox's case I think that she has an unfair advantage. It is outside of her control, but that unfortunately is her scenario. It's unfortunate especially for her competition as well."

Fallon Fox Responds To Ronda Rousey Not Wanting To Fight Her

fallon-fox

Transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox has responded to Ronda Rousey stating that she would not want to fight her due to Fox having the unfair advantage of going through puberty as a man. Fox has since responded to Rousey's "ridiculous" arguments with a statement on Facebook:
"First, I really wish Ronda would stop with the ridiculous bone structure arguments. That was so last year. Second, she should tell her boss to put me in that octagon over there at UFC. I'm quite sure that there are quite a few female MMA fighters who have guts to fight another skilled woman without peeing their panties and saying "No, I wouldn't fight her!". I think they may be a little more mentally tough and say, "I'll fight a trans woman, just like I'll fight a lesbian woman or a black woman." Etc. They may throw all kinds of backwards bogus bone density or bone structure arguments in it to possibly save face if they loose - because they sense that people are ignorant on bones within sport. But, at least some of them are the real deal in the way of fighting." "Ronda Rousey may not be right about what advantages she thinks that I have. But, at least she isn't mentally weak!" "And wait... Does that mean that makes Ronda more tough than Meisha Tate? Because Meisha Tate recently said... Oh... Well, I'll just let you all dig to find that one."
Fox is referring to Tate going on the record saying that she wouldn't fight Fox because fighting a woman who developed as a man isn't 'safe'. Comment below and tell us what you think about transgender MMA fighters.
