Ronda Rousey To Work Match At Next Year’s WrestleMania?

Following her show-stealing performance at WrestleMania 31 on Sunday night, early speculation is that we haven't seen the last of Ronda Rousey in WWE. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it's considered likely that last night was the beginning of WWE setting up a significant future program. While nothing is confirmed at this point, the belief is that last night's segment, which featured Rousey and The Rock getting into it with "The Authority" -- Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, was the beginning of a potential main event for next year's WrestleMania event. The belief is that The Rock and Triple H will be involved in one of the main events at WrestleMania 32, with Rousey and McMahon in their respective corners, or a potential mixed tag-team match with Rousey and The Rock taking on McMahon and Triple H. One would assume UFC President Dana White wouldn't allow Rousey to be involved in an actual match, so the former would seem more likely than the latter. WWE is trying to set a new attendance record at next year's WrestleMania, which takes place at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, so the company is expected to pull out all of the stops, and with Rousey's drawing power and the way last night's segment went, most are under the assumption that she will be involved. For those who missed it, you can check out video of the complete Ronda Rousey segment from WrestleMania 31 by clicking here. UPDATE: Ronda Rousey herself seems to be confirming the rumors. The Rock took to social media to talk about his "WrestleMania Moment" segment with Ronda Rousey this past Sunday night, teasing that the two aren't finished in WWE just yet. The Rock said it was an "honor to create such an eletric and historic WrestleMania moment" with the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion and finished with "#WereJustGettingStarted." He also re-tweeted an article about Rousey saying "We're just getting started" and wrote "co-sign" on it, leading many to believe that we have not yet seen the last of Rock and Rousey in WWE. As reported on Monday, there are rumors of a Rock and Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon mixed tag-team match at WrestleMania 32 next year. Below is the full statement Rock posted about Sunday's segment with Rousey, along with the tweets he posted.
"My brilliant (and bad ass) partner @UFC World Champ @rondarousey Very cool and honored to have created such an electric and historic #WrestleMania moment. Following rumors that Ronda Rousey could be doing additional work with WWE in the future, including rumors of a potential match at next year's WrestleMania, UFC released a statement to clarify the situation. The company stated that Rousey has not signed a deal with WWE, and that her WrestleMania 31 appearance this past Sunday night was a "one-off." While no contract has been signed for a second appearance, there is still hope within WWE that a deal can be reached to get Rousey back for either a mixed tag-team match with The Rock, with the two taking on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 32, or as noted, simply have her in Rock's corner for a singles match against Triple H, with Stephanie in his corner, and possibly have her do a spot or two during the show. Regardless, UFC is looking to make it clear that Rousey has no agreement with WWE past this past Sunday's appearance. The company tweeted the following on the official "UFC Tonight" Twitter account.

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey dia a Twitter Q&A this past weekend to promote her new movie Furious 7. Here’s some highlights of what she said: After her appearance at WrestleMania, Rousey tweeted that it was “just the beginning.” However, UFC stated last week that her appearance at WrestleMania 31 was a “one off” appearance. That said, WWE officials are still hoping to use Rousey again in the future in a match with Stephanie McMahon. Whether it’s Rousey vs. Steph or Rock and Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie in a mixed tag match, you can bet WWE will do everything they can to once again acquire the services of the box office phenomenon.

Update On WWE Wanting To Book Ronda Rousey vs. Stephanie McMahon At WrestleMania 32

Although the initial talk was that WWE was looking to promote a "mixed tag-team" match with The Rock and Ronda Rousey challenging Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, it looks as though WWE has different plans for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is actually hoping to book a straight singles match between Rousey and McMahon for next year's WrestleMania 32 event at Cowboys Stadium in Texas. WWE has reportedly wanted to do the Rousey-McMahon match since Rousey attended their SummerSlam event in 2014 and helped Stephanie with her "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge." Obviously there are many factors that need to be worked out for something like this to happen, which has left many within WWE to assume that the more likely scenario would be The Rock vs. Triple H in a singles match at WrestleMania 32, with Rousey and McMahon in their respective corners. The feeling is that is something UFC might actually approve, and would still give WWE the ability to promote a big Rousey happening at their biggest show of the year.

As reported this week, WWE is looking to do a match between Ronda Rousey vs. Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 32 next year, an idea that influenced what happened in their angle at last WrestleMania 31 earlier this month. Many questioned why Rousey didn't execute her famous armbar on Stephanie during the angle, and apparently that was a move done by design by WWE. There was talk within WWE of wanting to do a Rousey vs. McMahon match dating back to the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion's appearance at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event last August. Eventually, WWE managed to secure Rousey for a "one-off" contracted appearance at WrestleMania 31, which ended up being the segment with she and The Rock that we saw earlier this month. WWE booked that segment with full intentions of securing Rousey for a future appearance as well. WWE shot the Rousey-McMahon angle at WrestleMania 31 in a way that leads to a match between the two, if, of course, the company is able to convince the UFC to let Rousey work a full pro wrestling match. WWE is under the belief, for obvious reasons, that Rousey armbarring McMahon is the "money shot" in the program, so the company opted to save that spot, keeping it out of their WrestleMania 31 angle in the hopes that they can book the Rousey-McMahon match and use the armbar as the finish of the bout. Ronda Rousey appeared on WWE Hall Of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper's "Piper's Pit" podcast this week and revealed that some of what happened during her WrestleMania 31 appearance wasn't planned. Rousey spoke in-depth about her WrestleMania experience, noting that she had a lot of fun, but was completely nervous the entire time. "There's no way I'm not going back in there, though," said Rousey. "There's nothing like it. The second I left, I was thinking how I could possibly go back. I hadn't even got out of my outfit yet." The UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion explained how hard it was to perform in a WWE ring as opposed to an Octagon, noting that it was a "tall order" to try and out-shine WWE legends like The Rock and Triple H. "It's a tricky thing having [The Rock]. He's so good at putting people over. He holds the room so intensely, it's hard to not be outshone by him," said Rousey. "Triple H and The Rock could be one of the biggest rivalries of all-time. How can we make a situation where we ignore them? That's a lot of pressure, to be captivating enough to ignore them." Rousey also revealed that the throw she did to Triple H wasn't the one she had originally planned to do. "That wasn't even a throw I was planning. I made it up on the spot. I pulled it out of my ass. I don't even know what that is," said Rousey. "It was kind of awesome to see everything planned, and everything that doesn't go according to plan." Rousey concluded, "Everything that didn't go the way we wanted to go was better than we even could have thought." The Rock Convinced Dana White To Allow Ronda Rousey Work WrestleMania This Year?

WWE officials reportedly feel as though Ronda Rousey is "part of the WWE family now" after her wildly successful appearance at this year's WrestleMania 31 event, and it looks like we have Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to thank for that. According to multiple industry sources, WWE fully expects Rousey back at some point to do business with the company on some level, so much so that they are currently planning on promoting some of her non-UFC projects, such as acting and other outside ventures, much like they do with The Rock, despite the fact that he only appears on WWE programming once or twice a year at the most. Speaking of The Rock, one source claims that he played a big part in helping convince UFC President Dana White to sign off on allowing Rousey to take part in the WrestleMania segment this year. It's no secret within the MMA community that there is a strong doubt that White will allow Rousey to compete in an actual match for the popular pro wrestling promotion, which is something WWE is strongly hoping to make happen at WrestleMania 32 next year at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will be interesting to see if The Rock can help play a role in convincing White to "green light" that one as well. Meanwhile, many within WWE are still under the belief that they will be able to get Rousey to make some sort of appearance at their next pay-per-view event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The next WWE PPV event planned for the L.A.-based arena is their "Hell In A Cell" event, which takes place on Sunday, October 25th.

UFC President Dana White is never shy in defending his MMA athletes when it comes to fantasy bouts between his UFC fighters and elite-level professional fighters, but this time he might've taken it a bit too far. Celebrity-gossip website TMZ Sports recently caught up with the UFC boss to ask him about comments made by his rising Irish Featherweight title contender "The Notorious" Conor McGregor, a man who claimed in a recent interview that he could easily defeat boxing's pound-for-pound king -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. -- in under 30 seconds. To the surprise of no one in attendance, White was quick to agree "Of course," exclaimed White when answering the reporters question, which you can watch via the video player embedded above. "Any of these guys walking through -- he’d beat Mayweather. He’d beat Mayweather. All of these guys would beat Mayweather." White then took things just a bit too far. "Not just Conor," said White. "She'd [points to UFC Women's Strawweight contender Paige VanZant] beat Mayweather.” First, VanZant must get past fellow UFC Women's Strawweight contender and former Ultimate Fighter veteran Felice Herrig, as the two meet in the main card of the UFC On FOX 15 event, which takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, April 18th. Oh yeah, and Mayweather would have to get past his next challenger as well -- Manny Pacquiao, whom he fights in potentially the most lucrative prize fight in history when the two step into the squared circle for a joint HBO/Showtime pay-per-view presentation on Saturday, May 2nd.

After stealing the show at WrestleMania 31 this year, The Rock and Ronda Rousey have stolen something else together -- box office records. "Furious 7," which features both Rock and Rousey in prominent roles in the latest installment of the wildly popular "Fast & Furious" film franchise, set an astonishing financial record. After only 17 days in theaters, "Furious 7" has already broken the one billion dollar mark worldwide. In just over two weeks, The Rock and Rousey film, which features several of the original "Fast & Furious" cast members, is the first one billion dollar film in the 103-year history of Universal Studios, which based on Hollywood standards, is an unbelievable success. Whether or not Rock and Rousey team up for future projects, such as a return role at WrestleMania 32 next year, which is already being discussed, remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure -- The Rock and Ronda Rousey make one hell of a tag-team, on the big screen and/or in the squared circle.
