UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta explained during a recent media interview that the proposed title fight between undefeated UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronday Rousey and number-one ranked, undefeated UFC Women's Bantamweight contender Cat Zingano is nearly finalized for the upcoming January 3rd fight card in Las Vegas, Nevada. "'Cat is certainly the number one contender, and I’m thinking that more than likely will happen," said Fertitta. As far as what could be next for whomever comes out on top as the reigning champion after the likely 1/3 title match between Rousey and Zingano, Fertitta has an idea regarding who just might be the perfect fit. Fellow undefeated prospect and the latest addition to the UFC Women's Bantamweight division -- Holly Holm -- just might fit the bill. “She has to work her way through the system," said Fertitta of former boxing champion Holly Holm. "We've got her in a tough fight,” Fertitta said of Holm's UFC debut opponent -- Ultimate Fighter veteran Raquel Pennington. “She’s obviously extremely talented in the stand-up game," said Fertitta of Holm. "But is she well rounded enough to get into a position to challenge for a title?" When breaking down the Holm-Pennington fight, which was announced for UFC 181 in December, Fertitta questioned whether or not the stand-up fighter Holm has what it takes to implement her style of fight to get past the former TUF cast member. “[Pennington] has good stand-up and an underrated ground game," Fertitta said of Holm's UFC debut opponent. "It’s going to be interesting to see if this fight remains standing.” And even though Holm herself admitted that while she may not have earned a shot at Rousey and the UFC title just yet, she wouldn't turn such a bout down either, regardless of her lack of experience on the big stage. Fertitta couldn't agree more. “My gut tells me we’ll want her to have a couple, three fights to have her work her way through the division,” said the UFC co-owner. “If she’s successful, depending on how she looks in those fights, we’ll make the best fight that makes the most sense at the time. She has to get at least a couple wins.” As far as Rousey vs. Zingano is concerned, however, as noted above, Fertitta seems to think the UFC 182 lineup would be the perfect fit. After a number of injuries shuffled up a bunch of planned fight cards, UFC 182 on January 3rd will be headlined by arguably the biggest grudge match on the horizon, as it now serves as the home for the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier fight for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
